Description
The term eczema encompasses a wide range of disorders that all have a degree of skin inflammation. Oftentimes, this condition presents as red, itchy, cracked, and flaking skin. Blisters can sometimes appear on the palms and soles. Eczema can become co-infected with bacterial viruses, and yeast/fungus. Over time, as the condition becomes chronic the skin can become thick and leathery (lichenification). Eczema/atopic dermatitis is exacerbated by allergic contactants or irritantants.

People of all ages and ethnicities are affected. Childhood involvement can improve with age. There is often overlap with hay fever, asthma, and hives.

Treatments
Topical corticosteroids, topical calcineurin inhibitors, systemic medications, daily skin care management (emollients)
