Impetigo is a bacterial skin infection usually cased by Staph or Strep bacterial. It commonly presents as a red sores with overlying yellow or brown crust. The sores can ooze fluid. There are often swollen lymph nodes in the area of involvement. Kids get this condition most frequently, but it can affect people of all ages. Impetigo is transmitted with close personal contact as well as infected objects (towels, toys). A child can return to daycare or school 24-48 hours after receiving treatment.

Evaluation by a dermatologist; sometimes a bacterial culture is performed in the office

Topical or oral antibiotics
